WHAT IS A AREA 51 πŸ‘½πŸ‘½πŸ‘½

What is a area 51

It has been a perennial American obsession for more than 50 years. It provided a shadowy backdrop for the shows like "The X-Files" and movies like the 1996 summer blockbuster "Independence Day.

The place: Area 51, is a remote patch of desert somewhere 83 miles in the north-northwest of Las Vegas, next to the salt flat at the foot of a mountain. This military outpost — and what's happened inside it — is so top-secret that its very existence was discovered until 2013.

Area 51 was created during the Cold War to help America peek in on the Soviet Union. But, because of the clandestine beginnings and cutting-edge, many Americans came to associate the base with extraterrestrial ships.

Area 51 and it's conspiracy theory

With the facility shrouded in secrecy, several conspiracy theories have emerged over the years. Several Americans believed it was where the government hides the bodies of extra terrestrial beings and UFOs, some believed it was where the government holds “meetings” with the extraterrestrials, and others speculated it was where the government holds a “time travel”technology.

The CIA, according to official documents, has been using the facility since 1955 to develop and test supersonic aircraft and stealth fighter jets. It was only in 2013 that the CIA published declassified documents admitting that Area 51 is a secret military site. This was following a Freedom of Information request filed in 2005 by Dr Jeffrey T Richelson, a senior officer at the George Washington University National Security Archive.

History

The origin of the name "Area 51" is still unclear. It is believed that's it an Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) numbering grid, although Area 51 is not part of the system; it is adjacent to Area 15. Another explanation is that 51 was used because it was unlikely that the AEC would use the number.According to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the correct names for the facility are Homey Airport (KXTA) and Groom Lake, though the name Area 51 was used on a CIA document in the Vietnam War.The facility has also been referred to as Dreamland and Paradise Ranch, among other nicknames. The USAF public relations has referred the facility as "an operating location near Groom Dry Lake". The special use airspace around the field is referred to as Restricted Area 4808 North (R-4808N).

Lead and silver were discovered on a southern part of the Groom Range in 1864,and the English company Groome Lead Mines Limited financed the Conception Mines in the 1870s, giving the district its name (nearby mines included Maria, Willow, and White Lake). J. B. Osborne and partners acquired the controlling interest in Groom in 1876, and Osbourne's son acquired it in the 1890s Mining continued until 1918, then resumed after World War II until the early 1950s.

The 2019 Facebook viral event

Thousands of people have signed the event and registered to travel to desert towns in Nevada this weekend, inspired by a viral call to “attack Area 51” in hopes of overpowering the US military and uncovering the mystery that whatever government secrets are hiding from the world.

The desert base, which is entirely off-limits to civilians, has long been at the center of conspiracy theories among alien fans and ufologists — people who searched for UFOs. Somewhere amid Area 51’s vast desert acreage, they believe, it is a heavily guarded underground lab where the government kept and studied captured alien aircraft — and possibly even aliens themselves. This belief that Area 51’s “military base” is a cover for alien research has been fully mythologized by pop culture over the years, becoming an entrenched part of alien lore.

But those who went there hoping to find parked flying saucers and green alien bodies laid out on cold metal tables will surely be disappointed, for two reasons. The first is that local authorities surely won’t let anyone near the secret site in Nevada.

-Why was area 51 built?

Area 51 was built during the Cold War between the US and the Soviet Union as a testing and development facility for jetcraft, including the U-2 and SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance planes.

It was opened in 1955, but its existence was only officially acknowledged by the CIA on August 2013.

Four months later the CIA's disclosure, President Obama became the first US president to mention Area 51 publicly.

-What goes on area 51 today

Although official information is confirmed, it is believed that the US military continues to use Area 51 to develop cutting-edge aircraft. About 1,500 people are believed to work there, many commuting on charter flights from Las Vegas.

Annie Jacobsen, who is the writer of the history of Area 51, told the BBC that some of the world's most advanced espionage programmes are at the site.

"Area 51 is a test and training facility. The research began with the U-2 spy plane in the 1950s and has now moved on to drones",

-Are there aliens and flying saucers at Area 51?

The secrecy surrounding Area 51 has revealed many conspiracy theories.

Most famous is the claim that the site hosts an alien craft and the bodys of the pilots, after they crashed at Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. The US government says there were no aliens and the crashed craft was a weather balloon.

Others claim to have seen UFOs above or near the area or place while some say they have been abducted by aliens, and even experimented on them before being returned to Earth.
